About The Coffee: Komothai Riakahara Factory is one of 13 wet mills operated by the Komothai Coffee Growers Cooperative Society in Kiambu, Kenya. Established in 1960, Riakahara is the cooperative’s oldest factory and sits at around 1,750 metres above sea level. Smallholder farmers deliver carefully selected ripe cherries to the station, with SL28, SL34, Batian and Ruiru 11 among the main varieties grown in the region.
The coffee is traditionally fully washed, with cherries sorted and pulped before being fermented overnight. The parchment is then washed and graded before being slowly dried on raised beds for around 8–14 days. The combination of high elevation, volcanic soils and careful processing produces a clean, vibrant cup with a rounded sweetness and bright fruit character.
