From Australia to the World Stage: Jack Simpson Wins the 2025 World Barista Championship Crown!

Australia’s own Jack Simpson of Axil Coffee, has been crowned the 2025 World Barista Champion in Milan at HOSTMilan. 

This win solidifies Jack as one of specialty coffee’s greats by consistently representing Australia on the competition stage, winning the title of Australian Barista Champion for 3 years running. He was previously placed 3rd at the WBC in Greece back in 2023 and 2nd at the WBC in Busan in 2024. Now in 2025, Jack has risen to the top, taking home 1st place - a true reflection of sheer determination, resilience and dedication. 

This incredible achievement by Jack and the team at Axil Coffee continues to build on the legacy of previous World Barista Championship title holders like our very own Founder, Dave Makin of Axil Coffee. 

Jack’s victorious win wasn’t a solo effort either. It was through the love and support from the exceptional coffee producers behind the coffees, the unwavering support of Matthew Crowley (Director of Coffee at Axil Coffee) and Dave Makin (Managing Director of Axil Coffee), as well as partner Gabby Cote that made the win possible. Team Australia, along with producers Jamison Savage of Finca Deborah and Johnathan Gasca of Finca Zarza were right there with him as Jack took to the final stage. Jack has embodied Axil Coffee’s dedication to building long-lasting relationships through direct trade by working collaboratively with these coffee producers to create unique processing methods for his competition coffees. This commitment to producing the world-class coffees was crucial to Jack’s win, highlighting the collaborative nature of the championships.
