If you’ve picked up a bag of our coffee recently, whether in-store or online, you might have noticed something new. At the top left-hand corner, you’ll see a gold foil sticker that proudly states “ Roaster of the World Barista Champion 2022 and 2025”.
It’s a small change, but it celebrates some huge wins for the team at Axil, our coffee and our producers.
In 2022, Anthony Douglas made history by becoming the first Australian barista to take out first place in seven years at the Melbourne International Coffee Exhibition (MICE). He competed against 47 of the world’s best baristas with his creativity, precision and dedication and in particular, his innovative signature drink mesmerising the judges. Skip to last year in 2025, following 3x consecutive Australian Championship title wins, Jack Simpson of Axil took the crown of World Barista Champion in Milan at HOSTMilan, This solidified his position as one of specialty coffee’s best. A close resemblance to Anthony’s win, Jack’s victorious win was a result of dedication, resilience and a close collaboration with equally dedicated and exceptional coffee producers.
These wins are more than just championship titles. They reflect Axil’s philosophy in the pursuit of quality, consistency, superior taste, and meaningful collaborations. So every time you see a foil sticker, it’s a reminder of our commitment and promise; to serve our community nothing but the best.
